Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing

Fractional laser skin resurfacing is a proven technology invented by Palomar to improve overall skin texture, as well as to significantly improve scars – acne, surgical or trauma, and stretch marks.  We are proud to offer Palomar’s Lux 1540 non-ablative fractional laser with XD Microlens. This laser handpiece delivers an array of high precision microbeams to create narrow columns of treated tissue surrounded by untreated tissue deep in the dermis. This triggers a restorative natural healing process that creates healthy new skin, including the formation of new collagen, resulting in faster healing time and reduced side effects.  Optimal results are often achieved after 3 treatments, however, this may vary depending on the severity of the problem.

Skin Resurfacing Vancouver Frequently Asked Questions

Is the procedure painful?

Fractional 1540 skin resurfacing is non-ablative meaning it leaves the top epidermal layer of tissue intact. No conscious sedation is required and the procedure is non-surgical. Fractional skin resurfacing is performed using a topical anesthetic on the skin for treatment of individual regions of the face and body. The most you will feel is a warm, prickly sensation, which is very tolerable.

What will my skin look like after the procedure?

Your skin will look pink, with mild to moderate swelling and feel warm. After the treatment the aesthetician will provide you with an ice roller to cool the skin and ice packets to take home for comfort. An SPF lotion is applied to the skin for sun protection after treatment. We also offer a complimentary Colorscience mineral make-up touch up after treatment to provide additional protection and conceal any redness for the remainder of the day.

Is there downtime?

Mild to moderate redness and swelling will occur which usually lasts 3-7 days. Mild itchiness, warmth and a slight stinging sensation may occur immediately after treatment. The top epidermal tissue layer is left intact which dramatically reduces the recovery time.

How many treatments are required?

A series of three to five treatments is recommended for optimal results. Each treatment takes approximately 30 to 90 minutes depending on the size of the area. The topical anesthetic is applied to the area for 10 minutes before treatment to numb the skin. Treatments are scheduled approximately four to six weeks apart.

Can you treat tanned skin?

Because Fractional non-ablative procedures bypass the melanin (pigment) layer of the skin to target the dermis we can safely and effectively treat darker and tanned skin. We perform the procedure year round however SPF is critical during the summer months.
